Sparkling Letters Monthly Recap: September 2016

Sparkling Letters Monthly Recap (3).png

Unlike every other months when I feel like time passed very quickly, September felt like forever to me! Basically because I’m (still) unemployed and everyday feels like holiday to me 😛 nonetheless, welcome to another recap! I’m also adding a new feature in which I’ll list down my favorite bookish posts around the blogosphere. Without further ado, let’s see what I’ve been up to this month ♥

Sparkling Letters Book Blog - July Life Update

  • The job hunting party is going well so far! I’ve had several calls and interviews this month and I’m currently in the selection process of some prestigious companies in Indonesia. I really, really wish I get in! Wish me luck? ♥
  • I miss my friends 😦 like… A LOT! I went to uni in Bandung which is like 3 hours away so most of my uni friends either live there or in other different cities. That means I have very few uni friends living in the same city with me, which means I have only a few people to hang out with. Which is sad… at least I still hang out with my high school friends 😛
  • Actually, there’s not much going on with my life :’)

Sparkling Letters Book Blog - July Books Life

I read around 15 books this month but 4 of them are rereads so… they didn’t count? :’) I didn’t buy too many books either because (money???) and all I want to buy are new releases which aren’t available yet in my country because international shipping sucks like that.

Read this month

Review I'll Give You The Sun & The Sky is Everywhere.jpg

Did you see that my last reads are all disappointing? I was on a streak of bad books and it totally killed my mood for reading! I was going to slump so I reread The Way to Game the Walk of Shame for 3 times in 2 days to prevent it. I could practically recite most of dialogues which not at all weird, right? 😛 I’m also starting to reread the ENTIRE series of Harry Potter because it’s been a while ♥

I ordered Crooked Kingdom, Vicious, and A Gathering of Shadows but they haven’t arrived yet. Really hoping to get them soon because all of this hype around Crooked Kingdom is making me SUPER JEALOUS! </3

Sparkling Letters Book Blog - July On the Blog

I celebrated my 6 months blogiversary on September 2! ♥ there’s something satisfying from hitting another milestone! I hope to keep blogging and someday move to self hosting 😀

The blog is getting a steadier number of visitors everyday and I’m sooo happy ♥♥♥ My referrers also varied and I’m stoked to see people finding my blog for everywhere. Thank you for visiting 😀 But there’s ONE MYSTERY that I haven’t cracked : why can’t I predict which posts would get high traffic??? Sometimes when I’m drafting, I had a feeling that this post will be a huge hit but then it’s so lonely?! But then when I was just posting because of necessity, that post received so many likes and comments? Why is that? :’)

Anywayyy, I haven’t been in the mood for blogging lately. I’m so sorry that I was so late to reply your comments and didn’t visit back (like I usually do). I also haven’t done much blog hopping lately. But this shall pass soon and I promise I’ll blog hop sometimes next week 😀

  1. Good luck with your job hunting. I just recently got a new job after searching and interviewing for a long time, so I know the struggle! I’m sorry most of your uni friends aren’t close by; that’s a bummer. It’s good you DO have high school friends to hang with sometimes though.

I LOVE I’ll Give You the Sun but I need to read Nelson’s other book soon. Yay for rereading the HP series. I’m hoping to start reading them again soon too. I’m actually having a whole MONTH of Hp on my blog in October if you’re interested!

  2. Goodluck on the job hunting front I hope something comes up for you soon, I know how hard it can be,
You seem to be in good spirits though and had a good reading month with some glitches. Let’s hope October brings you better reads and a job!

  3. September went by so fast for me, but then again I feel like the rest of this year has just been slowly inching along. Good luck with all the jobs though! I hope you end up with one that you really love. 🙂 It’s too bad Vassa in the night was such a disappointment, I’ve really been looking forward to it. 😦 I hope you have a wonderful October, and once again, good luck with job hunting!

    • Ohhh on the contrary, I felt like 2016 flew by so fast! 😛 yayyy thank you ❤ I hope so too! Me too, I was really looking forward to it but it was so disappointing to me 😦 I just posted a full review if you're interested for a more elaborate rants 😛 Have a great October too! ❤

  4. AAH!! I hope you get a job in one of those companies you want ❤
and I'M SO GLAD YOU JOINED THE JANDY NELSON FANCLUB ! I seriously adored her and you rated her books the same exact way I did, I'll Give you the Sun is one if my favorite books of all times and I can't wait to get my own physical copy of it (I only read the ebook) because I want to reread it many times in the future and I hope next time I do, I'll get to experience the physical book !
And it's okay that you haven't been in the mood for blogging, it happens to all of us and we'll be waiting for you anytime you get you groove back 😀

    • Thanks Fadwa I really hope so too ❤ I'M SO GLAD TO BE WELCOMED 😛 Both books are so adorable and I just love them so much! Ohhh did you order it? I hope you get it soon, I already reread it a few times or just simply opened some random pages and read 😛 YESSSS! I have a lot to do and a lot to learn for job interviews etc and I felt guilty for blogging </3

      • Ahahaha 😁
Well sadly no :/ I yet have to get it, as well as physical copies of some other favorites of mine but I’m planning on getting them really soon (hopefully).
Job interviews can be SO stressful, I really am glad I don’t have to deal with them 😂 Oh and don’t ! ! If you need to take a step back to figure out your professional life just do it, we’ll still be here.

  5. Thanks so much for mentioning my post! 🙂
I’m really glad your job hunting is going well! I’m also job hunting at the moment too, and so I know how time consuming and repetitive it can get, so at least you’re hearing back from some of them 🙂
I also feel like that, where I can’t predict what blog posts will be popular. Sometimes I write one that I think will be super successful (generally I’m judging from which of my past blog posts have gone down well), and then it doesn’t really take off, and then just a really random one I dashed off in an hour will get loads of views and comments! 🙂
I had really conflicted feelings about Empire of Storms too. So much so I had to turn my review into a likes/dislikes post just so I could figure out if I liked the book or not (and I’m still not 100% sure!).
    Have a good October! 🙂

    • You’re welcome! 😀 I hope so too, I’ve been rejected several times so it’s getting harder to keep up the good spirit! Good luck to you too, hope we both get the job we love soon ❤ I know right! I feel like this topic is so thought-provoking but the result shows otherwise… such a mystery 😛 Yesss I almost wrote my reviews in a list of likes/dislikes too! You too 😀

  6. Where do you go to uni in Bandung? Also, do you live in Jakarta? (it’s like 3 hours without traffic but we all know it’s almost an impossible situation xD) GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR JOB HUNT! My month was pretty okay… It was hectic because it was my first month in uni, so I didn’t read much, but I really enjoyed the activities 😀

  7. First off, happy blogoversary! (A little late, I know.) I hope that your job hunting goes well–sounds like you’re off to a fantastic start. I feel you with the inability to tell which posts will be popular. I have that issue too. Sometimes you write a post that you LOVE and no one comes to see it. It’s so sad! I’m off to go check out a bunch of your posts and ones you linked to now … lots of good stuff here!!

    • Thank you! Better late than never right? 😛 I hope so too… it’s more complicated than I thought it’ll be :’) but I’m still optimistic hehe I know right! and sometimes when I write a quick post just for the sake of posting, that post gets A LOT of hits, so weird! 😛 ohhh that’s sooo nice of you to do ❤

  8. Best of luck in your job search! I’m trying to think where you are if you are three hours from Bandung… We lived there for our first year in Indonesia then spent a year in Malang then four in Bali. Wish we were close now so I could meet you in person! Thanks for sharing this at Booknificent Thursday on Mommynificent.com this week!

    • Thank you! ❤ I live in Bogor, a city near Jakarta? Hehe ahhh I haven't even been to Malang yet! Totally envy you 😛 I assumed you don't live here anymore? Nonetheless, I'm always glad to find a book blogger who lives/used to live/ever been to my country 😀 Thank you!

  9. You had such a great reading month, Puput!! Sorry you didn’t enjoy Vassa in the Night. I have an ARC and started reading it, but couldn’t really get into it so I put it on hold.

Totally feeling you on the blogging burn out. I think when it starts happening it’s important to take a step back because sometimes that can really help!

Good luck with the job hunting too ♥

    • I did! But Vassa in the Night kinda ruined it for me… I haven’t read any other books ever since! 😦 haha yeahhh I took a step back this week and it’s great, but I’m worried of getting completely bored with blogging because I love it 😦 Thank you Lauren! ❤

  11. I am totally blown away by the Jandy Nelson covers and especially your fine presentation of their loveliness via your photography/design skills! I am a words over pics gal, so I’m not easily impressed…just IMHO though, for whatever it’s worth. 🙂 Cheers, Kara S
