Can you believe we’re already at the end of October??? Time is flying unbelievably fast this year! I can’t believe we’ll reach 2017 soon! ♦♦♦ This month has been very productive yet unproductive at the same times. Like I did a lot of super absurd and useless things but I also did a lot of productive things? 😛 Without further ado, let’s see what I’ve been up to this month ♥
- I’m STILL job hunting but currently at the very final selection process and I’m nervous and excited at the same times!! I can’t help feeling optimistic because I’ve made it this far and I believe in myself but I also don’t want to get my hopes up too high because I’m afraid of being disappointed if I don’t get it 😦 but I WANT THIS JOB SO BAD! :’) wish me another luck? ♥
- I’ve been spending my time binge watching some k-dramas 😛 I re-watched my favorite series Descendants of the Sun, started Signal but gave up mid series because it was too boring for my taste, and started & finished W-Two Worlds which was FABULOUS ♥ if you love k-drama and enjoy something cheesy & twisty, W is the answer! The plot is just so unique and the chemistry between the lead characters are so undeniable 😛
- I was thinking of learning a new language! I want to continue learning French since I had already learned the basic back in high school and Korean (haha) because apparently watching k-drama could familiarize someone with the language 😛 but my mom said Chinese, what do you think? But I don’t think I’m ready to learn any language that has its own letters though… that would be super difficult :’)
It’s safe to say that October is definitely my worst reading month so far </3 I normally read around 10 books each month but I only managed to read 4 😦 remember that time when I read Vassa in the Night and absolutely disliked it? Well… that book kind of killed my mood for reading and I ended up not reading anything for a week afterward 😦 I started a lot of books but I was too lazy and distracted to finish any of them. These are four that I managed to finish and they are great! ♥
- Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo (5/5), which is my ULTIMATE FAVORITE because it’s just so so so good! Great plot, unpredictable twist, precious characters, and so. much. feels! </3 I can’t recommend this book enough! 😛 Full review here.
- Twisted Palace by Erin Watt (4/5). The conclusion to my most guilty-pleasure read of ever! The drama was a bit too much, but I loved it anyway 😛 I also wrote a discussion about the problematic aspects of the entire Royals series as an entry for #CritYourFaves
- A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab (4.5/5). As fabulous and unpredictable as before, but so much slower! I’m still loving it and can’t wait for book three! ♦ Full review here.
- Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven (3/5). I had a mixed feeling about this book. While I loved the story, I wasn’t really into the female protagonist and the romance, so… there. Full review here.
On the brighter side, I bought so many books this month! Like, way too many! 😛 It was a lot more than I usually buy each month :’) here are my October haul ♦
I’ve also ordered Gemina but it STILL hasn’t arrived yet 😦 it’s on its way so it’ll probably arrive this week. I absolutely can’t wait to read it! ♥ anyway, I haven’t read most of these books but I’m planning to real soon 😀
I was on a bit of a blogging slump earlier this month. Actually it was more that I’ve got no time than the mood. I was busy with some more important stuffs and I felt guilty spending time on the blog… I was so behind on comments and tags and I’m so sorry! :’) I always want to reply genuinely so it might take longer for me to reply comments. But you are all amazing and please don’t stop commenting or tagging or nominating me for awards 😛 Since I was also on a reading slump, I almost ran out of things to post because no books means no reviews </3
Anyway, is there any specific post or topic that you want me to talk about? I’m completely open to suggestions! ♥
My favorite posts this month :
- The Struggle of An International Bookworm
- It’s NOT COOL to Hate on Books You Haven’t Read
- My Reading Kaleidoscope Part 2

All around the blogosphere ♥
- Jordon @ Simply Adrift discloses 6 things that make her want to read a book blog
- Fadwa @ Word Wonders wrote a thought-provoking post about access to books
- Briana @ Pages Unbond was wondering whether we could run a book blog without book reviews

This month was also a blast on instagram ♥ I joined the #BookishRainbow16 challenge and it was so fun and filled my feeds with beautiful, colorful photos! I also met a lot of new-to-me bookstagrammers and some of them are from Indonesia!! Ahh it always feels good to meet a fellow Indo book blogger or bookstagrammer because we are so rare 😛
Go ahead & follow me if you haven’t 😛 @sparklingletters_
I also participated on a couple of twitter chats this month! I know this might seem like not that big of a deal, but it is actually a big deal for me 😛 my number #1 problem with twitter chat is time because I live in GMT+7 so whenever a twitter chat is hosted by someone living in US, I almost never be able to participate. It would be either too late or too early on my timezone :’)
So that’s my October recap, everybody! How about yours? Anything interesting? Link me to your own recaps or just tell me! Would love to hear your thoughts! ♥♥
OH, and if there’s any specific topic you want me to talk about on the blog, do tell me. I need more ideas 😛

The books you read in October all seem great so that is a good thing even if they were fewer than usual. All the best with the job search. Its impressive how many languages you have learned and if you decide to go for Chinese then I wish you all the best. It looks complex due to the letters but it also seems interesting. Have a wonderful November.

Yes they were! I was actually very selective in choosing the books because I don’t want to end up in another slump 😛 Thank you! Wow I guess… I actually never count how many languages I master (at least slightly) hahah but I’m always marveled by language and wish to learn as many as possible! 😀 you too, have a great month ❤

Good luck with the job hunting! I hate doing that – I avoid doing it as much as I can, it makes me feel so anxious, haha. What kind of job are you looking for? I’ve never job-hunted in Indo but if I ever have to I worry I’ll be soooo out of my depth.
I also can’t wait for A Conjuring of Light! I hope it’ll be as great as the first two books. Do you order books from Book Depository? Do the books take a long time to arrive or does it depend on the book and where it’s shipped from? 🤔
And thanks for sharing my post! (Also sorry for only following now – I really thought I had.) 💗

Thank you Reg! It is very exhausting and the waiting part is more dreading for me :’) hmm I’m looking for anything related with human resources field, preferably recruiting and training 😀
Me too ahhh the wait is so insufferable! 😦 I order books from various places, but I get new release mostly from periplus and books & beyond online store because they’re faster, and other books from bookdepository because they’re cheaper but shipping takes at least 3 weeks when shipped from UK. It takes even longer when shipped from Aus :’)
You’re welcome and also thank you, I honestly didn’t notice it to hahaha 😛

I knooow. I wish they could just tell us immediately “no thanks” or “yes please!” after they read our application/interview us. Sometimes they don’t reply at all, which just makes the waiting more unbearable.
It’s so weird that shipping from Aus takes longer! You’d assume since we’re geographically closer it’ll be quicker. 😂

Exactly! But they always tell us to wait for at least 2 weeks :’) I know right!! That’s what I thought to ahaha

This was such a cool post! I love how you didn’t just list the books you read but also the books you boughts, what you were up to in your life and posts from other bloggers this month. It was so different to other monthly posts I’ve seen and seemed much more personal! Thank you!!

GOOD LUCK ON THE JOB HUNT! You can do this! And even though you only read 4 books this month, they’re all 4+ stars books. Quality over quantity right? 😀 I think you should try Korean, because you like to watch k-drama so maybe it will be easier to learn? Anyways Chinese is just to hard xD Have an amazing november!

Yayyy thank you Tasya! ❤ I need all the luck I can get hahaha 😛 yeahhh I was very selective in choosing the books, I didn't wanna end up in another slump though haha ahh yes I'm so curious with Korean! I know this is a really long shot but my goal is to be able to watch k drama without subtitle 😛 oh rightttt you speak Chinese? you too! 🙂

What a fun read! I love your post format and your graphics. Your pictures are so beautiful. Well done! ❤
Best of luck on your Job hunt. Sending you positive energy.
Numbers don't really matter when reading for pleasure (I often forget that), the enjoyment that counts. I see you enjoyed most of your reads, that's great 🙂 Don't ask me how my reading month was lol, it was bad as in barely reading bad. I'm at least enjoying my current read Broken Prince.
To a better reading month for us all! ( That sounded too dramatic lol, my bad :p)
Happy reading! ❤

Awww thank you! That’s the compliment all bloggers are striving for 😛 and again thank you, I definitely need all the luck I can get ahahah I agree, though I like to read as many as possible because I’m a competitive person like that lol but yes I did enjoy most of them ❤ ohhh was it really that bad?hahaha Broken Prince by Erin Watt? I enjoyed it as well, the juicy drama was so addictive 😛 yayyy cheers to us! ❤

Sorry you didn’t have the best reading month, but you instagram pictures are GORGEOUS! And no, I can’t believe October is already over. Wasn’t it just January like yesterday???
I agree, learning a new language with its own letter seems crazy difficult. Then again, I’m apparently terrible at language-learning since I’ve tried to learn Spanish basically my whole life and still cannot speak it or understand it beyond the most basic of sentences lol.
Good luck with your job hunting!

AHH THANK YOU ❤ I know right!! It seemed like 2016 was just starting 😛 I actually love learning languages, I mean, English is not even my first or second language at home ahaha but I had a hard time learning French, I was always confused with the grammars and the femininity & masculinity of the nouns and verbs 😦 thank you Kristen, I absolutely need all the luck I can get hahaha ❤

You had SUCH a great month, despite not reading much–sometimes it’s okay to step back from the books, though, and rediscover that passion later on. I’m sorry about the book slump after Vassa in the Night, though–that’s NEVER a good thing, and no fun to deal with!
I’m going to have to look and see if I’m following you on instagram–your photos are GORGEOUS!
Happy book-ing to you in the future! My October wrap up is right here! if you’re interested, but no worries if you’re not! ❤

YEEESSSS I agree! I didn’t read much but I watched a lot of series that I loved hahaha 😛 ugh definitely not, but I’m actually off to a good start this month, just finished reading To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and loving it ❤ ahhh thank you so much! 😀 and I'll definitely be interested in reading your wrap up post 😉

Good luck with the job hunting! I know what you mean about feeling anxious. The waiting is the worst (also the interview process, always makes me nervous).
It seems like a lot of us were in slumps this month. But you did read some fantastic books! I need to read ADSOM already. I keep seeing it everywhere and being recommended it.
I hope November ends up being a better reading month for you. 😊

Thank you! ❤ ugh yes the wait is dreading me so much </3 ah yes, after reading through a lot of wrap-up, I realized it wasn't just me. There was even someone who didn't read any single book this month! Ahaha OHH YOU SHOULD IT WAS AMAZING <333 You too! I'm actually off to a good start 😀

Fingers crossed for your job hunting! You’ll be great! I’ve tried to learn Chinese multiple times and failed every time haha, but I do think it is an important language to learn. I’ve had a copy of The Bone Season on my shelf since February but haven’t gotten around to it yet! Hope November treats you well!

Thank you! ❤ yeah with it being international and everything haha ahh I've heard so many great things about The Bone Season (but also some equally negative comments) but I'm still excited for it 😀 have a great November to you too!!

Good luck with the job hunting, Puput ♥ I’ve been wanting to learn another language. I used to be fluent in Indonesian when I was at school, but now I only remember the basics. I’ve been trying to teach myself Spanish on Duolingo, but it hasn’t been going too well haha. I can’t wait or my SOC/CK boxset to arrive!! I need to finish AGoS too. Thanks so much for sharing my post 😀

Thank you Lauren! I’m honestly exhausted and definitely need all the luck I can get ❤ ahh really? How come did you speak Indonesia? Did they use/teach it over there? Ugh yes, learning language at this age is difficult, I wish I had learned other languages when I was younger hahaha ahh right! You ordered it? Happy reading and hope you enjoy it, CK is probably my favorite book of 2016 ❤ you're welcome! 🙂

I started Holding up the Universe and liked the female protagonist, but not the male POV character, so I stopped reading and turned to another book called Wish by Barbara O’Conner and really like it.

I hope you get the job you’re hoping for! I adored the Bardugo and Schwab series, and I’m eager to read Niven’s new book as well. I too struggle with joining twitter chats–I’m not as far off GMT as you, but on the west coast of the US some of them happen while I’m still at work–but really it’s just that I always forget until they’re over.
I always appreciate it when people share other blogger’s posts in these wrap-ups, and you chose really interesting ones–thank you!

Amen to that! Thank you 😀 AHHH Bardugo & Schwab are two of my favorite authors of ever ❤ yeees sometimes I miss it too even if the time is convenient haha they are all so interesting! You should totally check them out and no worries! 😀
