ARC Review : The Inexplicable Logic of My Life // Lyrical, Beautiful, and Heartwarming

Sparkling Letters Book Blog- Review-The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Saenz (3).jpg

RATING : 4 Stars

Goodreads • Amazon • The Book Depository

I received this book from publisher via Netgalley in exchange for honest review.

UPDATEIt has been brought to my attention that this book is problematic. I honestly missed this part and I didn’t think it wasn’t a big deal, mostly because the book didn’t make it a big deal. But after reading a few reviews and rethinking some passages from the book, I agree that one of the conflict could have been handled a lot more wisely. Here’s a review that talks about it in detail if you want to know more. Below is my original review ⇓

Review : The Girl from Everywhere & The Ship Beyond Time // Maps, Ship, Diverse Characters, and Time Travel

Hello everyone, it’s review time! ♥

As you probably remember, I won a giveaway hosted by Heidi Helig in December. The prize is seven diverse books that arrived last month and two of them are Heidi’s own books : the UK edition of The Girl from Everywhere and the ARC of The Ship Beyond Time. Thank you Heidi! 😀 Since it was Heidi who gave me the books, of course I read her books first. Not to mention that I’ve been wanting to read them for a while now.

Without further ado, let’s get down to the review! Continue reading

Review : The Sun is Also a Star // Way Too Insta-Lovey for My Taste

Sparkling Letters Book Blog- Review-The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon (3).jpg

RATING : 2-5-stars

Goodreads • Amazon The Book Depository

This is my first Nicola Yoon’s book and I was initially reluctant to read it because of the insta love. But then I read positive, glowing reviews from some bloggers whose opinion I trust and decided to give this book a shot. I was disappointed. My initial thought was true. I’m honestly so sad to be giving this book 2.5 stars because I loved the writing so much! 😦 It hooked me right from the beginning but sadly there’s so many things that didn’t work out for me.

Let me break it down to you. Continue reading

Review: Salt to the Sea // Hate to be the Black Sheep Here, but Well…

Sparkling Letters Book Blog- Review-Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepentys (2).jpg

RATING : 3-stars

Goodreads • Amazon • The Book Depository

After seeing this book won the Goodreads Choice Award and receiving so many positive, 5-stars review, I was eager to read this book. And you know what usually happens every time I dive in with a lot of expectation. I get disappointed 😦 I truly don’t want to be the black sheep (again), but in the end, it was just an okay read for me. It might be because historical fiction isn’t my preferable genre, but probably not. Continue reading

Historical fiction isn’t my favorite genre and I don’t even like journey or road trip books but this one I enjoyed so much! I. Loved. It. ♥ Continue reading

Review: The Crown’s Game // Didn’t Expect to Love it But I DID!

Sparkling Letters Book Blog- Review-The Crown's Game by Evelyn Skye (3).jpg

RATING : 45-stars

Goodreads • Amazon • The Book Depository

Before I start with my review, let me make this clear. I did not expect to love this book. I did not expect to love this book. I did not—

Alright, you get the point. I’ve been hearing so many mixed reviews in which most of them said that there was insta love and a very thin plot. Naturally it wasn’t very high on my TBR. One day I picked this book up at a bookstore because it was cheap and I had a 15% membership discount for that day only. I looked for something better but didn’t found any. Now I am SO GLAD for that spur of the moment decision because I loved this book so much! ♥ Continue reading

Review: I’ll Meet You There // I love this book with all my heart!

RATING : 5 Stars

Goodreads Amazon The Book Depository

Oh this book… THIS BOOK… it’s everything I need from a contemporary fiction. It’s so raw and emotional and beautiful and I fell deeply in love with it. All I wanted to do was hold this book and cry myself to sleep… and that is precisely what I did after I was done reading.

I’ll Meet You There is a story about Skylar and Josh. Sky came from a poor family where it’s just her and her mother. She just graduated high school and counting the days until she had to leave for college, then something happened and her life started to fall apart–even more than it already did. The night of her graduation party, she saw Josh for the first time in 2 years at his welcome party, only to find out that Josh lost his leg in Afghanistan. Continue reading

Review: PS I Still Love You // First Love is So Adorable!

Sparkling Letters Book Blog- Review-PS I Still Love You by Jenny Han (1).jpg

RATING : 45-stars

Goodreads Amazon The Book Depository • My Review of TATBILB

You know what prevented me from reading To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before? The possibility of a love triangle. You know what prevented me from reading this book? The possibility of another love triangle 😂 That was why I put off reading it for so long… but no, I was worried over nothing because this, the love triangle, was executed perfectly! In fact the whole book was perfection and I had so much fun reading it ♥ Continue reading

Review: More Happy Than Not // More Like Depressing Than Happy… but in a Good Way!

Sparkling Letters Book Blog Review-More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera (1).jpg

RATING : 4 Stars

Goodreads Amazon The Book Depository

More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera is a hard one to review, but before I attempt to do so, I’m gonna be nice and warn you this : despite its title and the many, many smile icons inside the book, this is not a happy book. It’s dark and deals with heavy but important issues. It’s actually so much more depressing than happy 😛

It took me over two weeks to finish this book because it was hard for me to get immersed in it AT FIRST. The writing felt a little… off? I can’t pinpoint what exactly but some things took times to work for me. On top of it all, I was distracted by something else. But once I started to get the grip of it and removed the distraction, it was easy to get back into it! Continue reading

Review: Heartless // Better than My (Low) Expectation!

Sparkling Letters Review- Heartless by Marissa Meyer 4.jpg

RATING : 3-5-stars

Goodreads Amazon The Book Depository

I was so excited for this book because 1) I love retelling, 2) Marissa Meyer is the queen of fairy tale retelling, and 3) I adore The Lunar Chronicles to no end 😍 Imagine my excitement when I heard about Heartless… I was over the moon! But then I started hearing mixed reviews, and some of the reviewers I trust said that this book was dull, very insta-lovey, and simply wasn’t as good as The Lunar Chronicles. So I lowered my expectation and it was really for the best because I ended up enjoying if after all! 😀 Continue reading
