Top 10 Tuesday: 8 Most Favorite 2016 Releases (So Far)

2016 is definitely my best book year of all time! Last week, we put down a list of our most anticipated releases for the remaining year and there are SO MANY on my #TBR list! ♥ This week theme is Top Ten Favorite 2016 Releases So Far This Year which means I’m going to look back and see what incredibly awesome books I’ve read so far!

SPARKLING LETTERS BOOK BLOG- TOP 10 TUESDAY - 8 MOST FAVORITE 2016 RELEASES

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We’d love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

I’m not always up to date when it comes to reading books. Most of books I’ve read this year are actually books from the previous years that I haven’t had the chance to read. I’ve read more than 10 books published this year, but only 8 of them I deemed worthy to make the cut. Sooo this list will only contain 8 books. But don’t worry they’re GREAT! ♥

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

ACOMAF deserves all the stars in the Velaris night sky because it was so so so SO GOOD! I thought ACOTAR was great but this is so much BETTER ♦ This book is a bundle of two things I love most. Character development & emotional roller coaster ride. Oh, and irresistible, charming guys! ♥ This book is about love, life, family, and sacrifice. It’s about a hard-earned happiness and the journey towards it. SJM really takes her writing to a whole new level. I also love almost ALL her characters, including the amazing side characters. Never in my life have I ever loved side characters as much as I do with ACOMAF. Also… LOVE IS IN THE AIR! ♥♥♥ I shipped everybody so hard I can’t wait for the last book!! Who’s with me!?

The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh

So good! This book has it all, from cheap humor to unconditional love. Fascinating love story, so many emotions involved. I’m ALL for arabian fantasy ever since TWATD. Also magic! That magic carpet ride ♣ Take me take me take me! Fantastic storytelling ability and definitely a fantastic end to such beautiful story. Luuuurve ♥

The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski

Ultimately heartbreaking, just like the previous two books. I cried for the first 100 pages of the book and yes, I love books that make me cry. It’s just so heartbreaking to see what happened to Kestrel and Arin then to see how they deal with their problems. Every heart to heart conversations between them are my undoing. There are also major character developments, which I LOVE SO MUCH. I love to see how Arin and Kestrel grew to be the stronger version of themselves without losing their core characters.

Sadly though, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. I expect pretty HIGH, but it still didn’t disappoint. A stunning conclusion to one of my favorite series of all time ♥

The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan

This book is insanely hilarious! Apollo is one hell of a god. Funny, cocky, over confident, definitely narcissism at its best. He makes the story so refreshing! It’s also refreshing to see the story from a god point of view. From The Lightning Thief thru The Blood of Olympus, the gods have always been portrayed as self centered, thinking too highly of themselves, and relied on their off springs for deadly quests. Well, they truly are. Apollo just proved it. When he became mortal, he lost all sense of himself. He really had no idea whatsoever on how it is to be human. Which is verrrry funny, obviously. But the whole experience actually gave him a huge character development ♦

Paper Princess by Erin Watt

This book has every cliches you can imagine. Love hate relationship, the rich and the poor, high school dramas, the new girl kind of stuffs, you name it. This is Glee meets The Royals meets Meteor Garden. Surprisingly, I like it. It isn’t overly complicated and just simply likable. It’s a major page turner. So addictive. Finished it in one sitting. And as cliche as the story can get, I was still emotionally invested in it. I almost cried several times. Reed and Ella’s scenes are my undoing, especially when they’re talking from the heart. So much secrets, so much painful memories to endure </3

The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

You know I’m all for fairy tale retelling and so I’m definitely a sucker for books like this. It has so many lovable elements. Witty girl, charming boy, the grand palace, actions, magic, and all those princessy stuffs. It’s charming and definitely a page turner. I won’t go as far as give this book 5 stars, but I definitely had a good time reading this book and I recommend it to you reader who loves magic ♥

Inteligensi Embun Pagi by Dee Lestari

One of Indonesia’s famous GEM ♦ This is the last installment of all six books of Supernova and I was totally in awe! It was remarkably good. The idea of the story is mind blowing and the writing is so perfectly neat. I love it to bits! All the stars and thumbs up in the world for Inteligensi Embun Pagi!

P.S. I think they translated it to English, in case you’re curious. But it wouldn’t be the same though, since the awesomeness of this book rely heavily upon Dee’s remarkable writing style 🙂

The Architecture of Love by Ika Natassa

Another gem from Indonesia ♦ If you’re even remotely following the publishing world in Indonesia, then you’ll know there was a HUGE hype about this book and it was WORTH it 🙂 This book started out as a poll story on twitter. It’s like the coolest concept ever!! Check out my 800 words honest review here.

Other than these books, there are some books that I SO desperately want to put on the list!! Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare and The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi.

I haven’t finished Lady Midnight but so far I couldn’t connect with the character. Emma is just another Clary, stubborn and careless and I just can’t deal with another immature shadowhunter anymore. Not for now. I know I’m on the unpopular side of opinion here and don’t get me wrong, I love Cassandra Clare’s writing very much! I am saddened by the fact that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I’d like to. I stopped reading because Emma’s been too unbearable for me but I’m certain I’m gonna pick it up again soon. As for The Star-Touched Queen… I already wrote a full review here so I’m not gonna do it again. I WANTED to love them but what can I say, when I don’t feel it, I just don’t.

What about you? What are your favorite releases of 2016? Drop some comments and link me to your post so I could check out all those amazing books out there! And if YOU love Lady Midnight, feel free to SWAY ME so I might change my mind about it 😛

  1. The Architecture of Love has such a pretty cover- it immediately caught my eye. I have to say I haven’t read anything originating from Indonesia, so I might have to give it a go, especially since I’m trying to diversify my reading. I would love it if you could give me some more recommendations. 🙂 Great post!

    • Ahhh yes it’s so GOOD! But they haven’t translated it to english… 😦 if you want to start reading something from Indonesia then I guess you have to start reading the REALLY popular ones because those are the ones that already been translated 🙂 Supernova series by Dee Lestari is my #1 recommendation! They translated it to english already 😀

    • Believe it or not, I haven’t read much of it either lately. I don’t mean to talk bad about the publishing world in Indonesia, but there are so many books with captivating blurbs that turned out BAD. So lately, I’ve been really selective on books I buy. I only buy books from the authors I already know and love 😛 but yes, I have so many references!! 😀 TWATD is the BEST!
