Sparkling Letters Monthly Recap: January 2017

sparkling-letters-monthly-recap-january-2017

Hello everyone! ♥

As usual, it’s hard to believe that another month has passed. This month, I believe a lot of us had high hopes and expectations, considering this is the first month of a new year! What’s with the resolution and all that. My January was rather interesting, at least more interesting than the previous months. Lots of stuffs happening this month and I can’t wait to share them with you all!

Let’s get started ♣

Life Updates 1.jpg

  • I finally started to write my novel! ♥ I’ve had this idea for years and this year I finally decided to really write it down hahaha I’m at 20k now and I’m hoping to finish my first draft at the beginning of February. Take some time off, and then start editing because I kind of hate my first draft hahaha who doesn’t?!
  • 2017 wasn’t off to a good start. I lost my cat in a hit and run and it was so, so heartbreaking </3 however, I’m not as sad anymore because I have my kittens to cheer me up. Dory and Jack are really adorable ♥
  • I had to make a tough and important decision regarding my career choice. It was a really difficult one! I’m all for making my own decision but this one time I kind of hoped for someone to decide for me… hahaha just kidding, I ended up making my own decision after careful consideration and lots of praying. I hope this is the right decision 🙂
  • A lot of holiday trips! Most of them are near my city but it was still so fun and refreshing

Books life 1.jpg

This month I managed to read 13 books, in which half of them I received from Netgalley 😂 good news, publishers in Netgalley are being nicer to me 😛 Most of the books  I read this month are diverse contemporary and they’re all so good! I loved them ♥

January Hauls

As you might have known, 2017 promises a lot of amazing books for us bookworms! There are so many new releases I want to buy but so little money that I have, not to mention old releases that I still haven’t owned 😂😂 I looked at my TBR and finally decided that for now I would only buy new releases, unless the old releases are sequels to the series I’m currently reading 😛

For January releases, I ordered Caraval by Stephanie Garber, History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera, A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard, and The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. None of them has arrived yet. Also remember my overhaul last month? I try not to buy too many books this month, so my January haul is looking rather sad 😂

See, I only got Wolf by Wolf and I’ll Meet You There!

Aside from those two books, I also received SEVEN diverse books from a giveaway hosted by Heidi Helig! It was my first ever giveaway win so I was super excited. Especially since the books are looking really amazing and there’s also some extra bookish goodies! Thank you so much Heidi, and thank you so much for the lovely ladies who nominated me for this giveaway : Lauren, Fadwa, and Becca. You’re all incredible! ♥

Here’s the giveaway package

I don’t know if you noticed (I hope you did!) but I did a small makeover to my blog! 😀 I originally planned to only change my banner because of several reasons. (1) I hate that it’s in black while everything else is either pink or green, (2) there’s still a makeup icon on my logo which is irrelevant because I no longer blog about it, and (3) I want more pink and green and flower 😛

Here’s the comparison :

The new banner

Alright, what do you think? I personally prefer the new one A LOT! It’s more festive and fits my whole aesthetic perfectly while the old one was more plain. Also I love the font so much and I regret the fact that I didn’t use this one sooner 😂😂 anyway, one thing led to another and I decided to change a few things.

I also changed my header font from Shoreline Scripts to Sweet Pea. You might see it on my sub header. Also, also, I’m working on a new posting schedule! I used to post every other day but starting from February, I’m gonna try to stick with 3 posts each week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. I’m also changing my review format just a bit. I used to never put summary and details like publisher, release date, etc. Well, now I’m adding it on the bottom of my review! Also, also, I’ll add a new feature called The Diversity Corner but it’s not done yet so I’ll be making a separate post to introduce it sometimes in the next two weeks ♣

  1. Wow! 13 books! That sounds insane to me. My January isn’t such a good reading month but I guess it’s still a good start of the year 2017 because I am finally able to ‘follow my heart’. 🙂

    • Not really but I did achieve a lot hahah hmmm you mean reading certain books or just in general? Well I generally love reading because it’s fun and allows me to experience & feel so many things without going anywhere hehe and what happens after depends on the books. If it’s something amazing I’ll keep thinking about it but if it’s bad I’ll get annoyed and probably regret the time I spend in reading said book hehe

  2. I want to read so many of the books on your list, especially, More Happy Than Not, Salt to the Sea and Wolf by Wolf. I own all of them, but there’s so many book I want to read that it’s hard to chose what to read first. I can’t wait to get my hands in Noteworthy and You’re Welcome, Universe. I’m glad to see you enjoyed both of them.

I’m a new follower, so I hadn’t read your blog post about blog hopping before. Now that I have, I can totally say I agree with you. Blog hopping can be really fun, but it’s also necesarry to gain an audience and maintaining it. You did a great job on that post!

    • Ahh you should definitely get around them soon! They’re amazing 😀 Oh both books are great, I’m posting my review of You’re Welcome Universe next week and Noteworthy comes out in May so I’ll probably post my review in April hehe ah yayyy welcome! So glad you found me 😛 I know right, it’s really both hahaha thank you 😀

  3. Yeah, glad to see such a productive month! And lol, same, half of the books I read were e-ARCs, but I also read a good number of my 2016 releases, I guess? So I’m hoping it balances out! 😂

Also, I think the wrong post is linked for “What she learned after visiting 365 blogs.” 😬

  4. Lovely post! Seems like you had an amazing reading month 🙂 I hope your career-related decision is going to end up being what’s best for you. It is so hard to be an adult, I am in the same kind of place as you ahah, I wish someone could make decisions for me just as well hahaha.
I really love the changes you did to your blog, it looks so, so pretty! 🙂

  6. Wow, sounds like you’ve had a crazy month! So sorry about your cat but I’m glad you’re enjoying having new kittens, aren’t they just the cutest when they’re still all tiny and precious before they realise they can be haughty and ignore you if they don’t want something? And I hope you’re happy with your new career choice. Big decisions like that are always hard.

It looks like you’ve read lots of great books, looking forward to your review for You’re welcome, Universe, it’s a book I am really looking forward to and I am dithering over pre-ordering myself a copy.

I hope you have a good February too!

The kittens are at their cutest right now, 3 months old hahaha ugh yes they like to bite and scratch me but they’re so clingy & spoiled at the same time hahaha I hope I made the right decision as well! I’m still wondering if I made a mistake though hahaha ooohhh yes it’ll probably be up next week! 😀 have a wonderful February too ❤

  7. Looks like you had a very busy month, Puput! That’s so exciting about your novel. You’re already at 20k words!? You write fast, show me your ways lol. I can’t wait to hear more about it once you’ve finished it. And I’m glad to see that you enjoyed You’re Welcome, Universe because that is of my highly anticipated releases for this year. If I wasn’t on a NetGalley ban I would so request it 🙈. Also, 13 books in one month!? That’s so many. I think it’s safe to say you had a great reading month. Anyway! I hope you have a fantastic February and I can’t wait to see your Diversity Corner feature. 😁💕
